Senior Cat Boarding for Cats 13 and Over
Older cats stay in our Orient Suites with the Senior Package included as standard: heating, air conditioning, daily walks, and a closer eye kept on them every day of the stay.
- The Senior Package is automatic for every cat aged 13 and over, not an upsell
- Heated, air-conditioned Suites, because stiff old joints feel the cold
- Daily monitoring of appetite, mood, and health, with medication given as prescribed
A Cat-Only Resort Where Older Guests Get More, by Default
An old cat doesn’t need a bigger Suite. They need warmth, quiet, and somebody paying attention.
Owners of elderly cats tend to arrive at this page carrying a bit of guilt. They’ve had this cat since university, or since the kids were small, and the thought of leaving them somewhere unfamiliar at 16 feels like a lot to ask.
Here’s how we’ve answered that. At Cat Utopia, every cat aged 13 and over is placed in an Orient Suite with the Senior Package included in the rate. It’s compulsory, and it’s automatic. Older guests get climate-controlled accommodation with heating and air conditioning, daily walks in the Sanctuary and Lounge room, and closer daily attention, without anyone having to ask for it or pay extra for it at the counter.
That’s a deliberate decision by a resort built only for cats, by a founder with more than 30 years in the pet industry. There are no dogs on the property, no noise to startle a cat with fading hearing and slower reflexes, and no stairs or scrambling required to get to a bed, a bowl, or a litter tray.
Old cats are some of our favourite guests. They know exactly what they want, and it’s usually a warm spot and someone to talk to them.
Why Owners of Older Cats Choose Us
The Senior Package is standard, not an extra.
Every cat 13 and over is booked into an Orient Suite with the Senior Package included in the nightly rate. Climate control, daily walks in the Sanctuary and Lounge room, and a closer eye kept on them. You don't have to know to ask for it, and you're not charged for it separately.
Warmth, which matters more than anything at this age.
Orient Suites have heating and air conditioning. Our Imperial and Penthouse Suites add heated flooring. For an arthritic cat, a warm floor to lie on does more for their comfort during a stay than any amount of space.
Somebody watching appetite and mood every single day.
Older cats decline quietly. The TLC Program in every Suite includes daily monitoring of health, appetite, and behaviour, so a cat who stops eating or seems off is noticed on day one rather than day five. Medication is given as prescribed and recorded.
Quiet, cat-only, and no pressure to be sociable.
No dogs anywhere on site. Enrichment is offered, never imposed. If your 17-year-old wants to sleep in the sun and be left alone apart from a scratch behind the ears, that's a perfectly good holiday and nobody here will try to improve on it.

Booking a Senior Cat In, Step by Step
1.
Tell us their age and how they're going..
Phone (02) 4358 2608 or book online. Mention their age, any medication, arthritis or mobility issues, hearing or sight loss, and their appetite at the moment. Cats 13 and over are automatically booked into an Orient Suite with the Senior Package.
2.
Confirm vaccinations and admission requirements.
F3 minimum, boostered at least two weeks before arrival, with a vet certificate on or before drop-off. All cats over six months must be desexed. A nail clip before boarding is compulsory, and we can do it for $10 if trimming your cat's claws is more than you can manage these days.
3.
Send what they need.
Their usual food, any medication in original labelled packaging with written dosing instructions from your vet, and your vet's contact details. Familiar bedding helps an older cat settle faster.
4.
Drop off, or let us collect them.
Reception is open Monday to Saturday, 9am to 11am. If the car trip is hard on your cat, the Cat Chauffeur does a quoted door-to-door pick-up and return in a cat-only, air-conditioned vehicle. After-hours arrivals go through the Transit Lounge by appointment, with a $20 Sunday fee where it applies.
5.
Daily care, updates, and a call if we need one.
Medication as prescribed, health and appetite checked daily, walks and quiet company as your cat wants them. You'll get photo and message updates while you're away, and we'll phone you if anything changes.

FROM DOYALSON TO NATIONAL TELEVISION
Channel 9’s Today Extra brought cameras inside Cat Utopia to film the Suites, meet the Nannies, and show what a resort built only for cats actually looks like. Worth a watch if you want to see the space before you trust it with a nervous cat.
Senior Cats Come to Us from the Coast, Lake Macquarie, Newcastle and Sydney
We’re at Doyalson North on the northern Central Coast, set back in bushland. For an older cat, the length and smoothness of the trip is worth thinking about, so here’s the lay of the land.
Central Coast:Your nearest option, covering Wyong, Tuggerah, The Entrance, Budgewoi, Toukley, San Remo, Lake Haven, Gosford, Erina, Terrigal, Woy Woy and surrounds. A short trip is the kindest option for an elderly cat.
Newcastle and the Hunter: About 45 minutes south of Newcastle, serving Merewether, Hamilton, New Lambton, Adamstown, Kotara and out toward Maitland. We’re the nearest cat-only resort for most Newcastle owners.
Lake Macquarie: An easy run from Belmont, Swansea, Caves Beach, Catherine Hill Bay, Morisset and Toronto, and well within the Cat Chauffeur’s service area.
Sydney: Roughly an hour and a quarter from the CBD. It’s a longer trip, which is exactly why plenty of Sydney owners of older cats book the Cat Chauffeur instead of driving, especially for longer stays where the journey happens only twice.
Book the Cat Chauffeur for a quoted door-to-door pick-up and return, or phone the office to talk it through.

Cat Boarding with Medication FAQs
Yes. Our Nannies administer medication daily as prescribed by your vet, and it’s recorded as part of each guest’s daily care. Send the medication in its original labelled packaging with written dosing instructions, enough for the full stay plus a few days, and your vet’s contact details. Phone (02) 4358 2608 before booking so we can go through your cat’s specific requirements.
Oral tablets and capsules, liquid medications, topical treatments, eye and ear drops, and prescribed injections are the day-to-day of what we handle. What matters more than the form is that it’s prescribed for your cat, clearly labelled, and comes with written instructions. If your cat’s medication needs specific timing, refrigeration, or handling, tell us when you call and we’ll confirm we can meet it.
Diabetic management needs a conversation before you book, not a box ticked online. Phone the office on (02) 4358 2608 and talk to us about your cat’s insulin type, dosing schedule, feeding routine, and monitoring requirements, and we’ll tell you honestly whether we can meet them for your cat’s stay. Bring your vet’s written protocol and their contact details.
Subcutaneous fluids sit at the veterinary end of care rather than routine boarding care. Phone us to discuss your cat’s situation before booking. Depending on what’s required, the right answer may be boarding with us alongside arranged veterinary support, and we’d rather work that out with you in advance than at drop-off.
We regularly look after cats with the everyday chronic conditions: hyperthyroidism, kidney disease, arthritis, heart conditions, skin conditions, and cats recovering after routine surgery. The determining factor is usually how much intervention is needed and how quickly, not the diagnosis itself. Call us with the specifics and we’ll give you a straight answer about whether boarding suits your cat right now.
Health is monitored daily, so problems are usually picked up early. If your cat needs veterinary attention we arrange it, and we contact you. This is why we ask for your vet’s name and number at drop-off, along with an emergency contact who can make decisions if you’re overseas or unreachable. Any veterinary costs incurred are the owner’s responsibility.
Talk to us when you book. Rates for our Suites are published on the website, and we’ll be upfront about any additional charges that apply to your cat’s care before you confirm the booking, so there are no surprises at collection.
Cats aged 13 and over stay in an Orient Suite with the Senior Package included, which is designed around older guests who need a closer eye kept on them. There’s more detail on our Senior Cats page.
Often yes, depending on the stage of recovery and what the aftercare involves. Wound checks, medication, and restricted activity are manageable. Anything needing frequent clinical intervention is better handled by a veterinary hospital. Phone us with your vet’s discharge instructions and we’ll tell you which side of that line your cat falls on.
