At Cat Utopia Resort & Spa a 20 per cent surcharge applies from 15 December to 15 January, and a 10 per cent surcharge applies across NSW school holidays, both calculated on the published nightly suite rates.
How Peak Surcharges Work and How to Plan Around Them
The surcharge is applied to the standard nightly rate for your chosen suite. As a working example, a Classique Suite at $32 a night becomes $38.40 over the Christmas peak, and a Promenade Suite at $42 becomes $50.40. Because Cat Utopia publishes its rates, you can calculate a peak stay to the dollar before you book, which most premium catteries in NSW do not make possible.
Peak periods also change what accommodation is available. The Bungalow Suites open only during peak periods as overflow accommodation, at $69 a night with a window or $59 without, and The Sanctuary Retreat adds further capacity across four suite levels. That extra inventory exists because Christmas and school holiday demand outstrips the standard suites every year.
If your dates fall inside a peak window, two things matter more than the surcharge. First, availability: the Christmas period books out well in advance, so the earlier you reserve, the more suite choice you have. Second, the billing rules still apply as normal, so the full booked period is charged even if you collect early, and check-out after 11 am is charged as a full day.
For owners with flexible dates, travelling a week either side of the 15 December to 15 January window avoids the 20 per cent surcharge entirely and usually means better suite availability.
