Cats need a current F3 vaccination as a minimum to board, covering feline herpesvirus, feline calicivirus, and feline panleukopenia. F4 and F5 vaccinations are also accepted, since both include the F3 core.
Understanding F3, F4 and F5 and the Two-Week Rule
The F3 is the core vaccination for Australian cats. It protects against feline herpesvirus and feline calicivirus, the two main causes of cat flu, and feline panleukopenia, a serious and highly contagious virus. The F4 adds feline leukaemia virus cover, and the F5 adds further protection against. Any of the three satisfies a boarding requirement because each contains the F3 core.
The two-week window before check-in is not an arbitrary rule. A vaccination takes time to produce full immunity, so a booster given the day before boarding leaves a cat under-protected exactly when they are sharing a building with unfamiliar cats. Booking the vet visit at least a fortnight ahead of the stay closes that gap.
Cat Utopia asks for the veterinary certificate on or before arrival and reserves the right to refuse admission if the vaccination does not comply. That policy protects every guest in residence, including yours. It is one of the practical differences between a facility with enforced health standards and one without.
Two related requirements are worth knowing before you book: all cats over six months must be desexed, and flea prevention needs to be current, with re-application at the owner’s cost if it expires during the stay.
